Perpektong destinasyon umano ng dayuhang pamumuhunan ang Pilipinas dahil sa malakas na ekonomiya nito at mga repormang ipinatutupad para mas maging bukas ang ekonomiya kasabay ng magandang pagsasama ng mga miyembro ng Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), ayon kay Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez.

Sinabi ni Speaker Romualdez na bagamat magkakaiba ang kultura, wika, at pamamaraan ng mga miyembrong bansa ng ASEAN, nag-uugnayan ang mga ito upang matugunan ang mga hamon na kapwa nila kinakaharap.

“And that's why it's not such a big surprise that after the COVID pandemic we the ASEAN emerged as the bright spot in the global economy of course I'd like to put the Philippines up front,” ani Speaker Romualdez, isa sa mga panelist ng “Learning from ASEAN” session sa World Economic Forum Annual Meeting live panel discussion kung saan host ang CNN anchor na si Julia Chatterley noong Miyerkoles ng hapon (oras sa Switzerland).

Inaasahan na mananatili ang ASEAN bilang rehiyon na may pinakamabilis na pag-unlad ang ekonomiya sa mundo at magsisilbing malaking bahagi ng pag-angat ng Asia-Pacific sa susunod na dekada.

“And we like to herald the fact that we have a very, very young working population with the median age of 25 years old. We also have an English-speaking population that provides this facility for communications not just within the ASEAN but throughout the international global community,” sabi ni Romualdez, na siyang nanguna sa delegasyon ng Pilipinas sa 2024 WEF meet.

“We are announcing to the global community that as opposed to the past decade when there was a bit of an isolation of the Philippines the Philippines is open for business: we welcome the global community we want to share our talents, our gifts to the whole world,” dagdag pa nito.

Nauna rito, sinabi ni Romualdez sa lider ng iba’t ibang international business groups sa isang breakfast roundtable discussion ang mga hakbang na gagawin ng Pilipinas upang alisin ang limitasyong sa dayuhang pamumuhunan na nakasaad sa Konstitusyon.

“We want to share our talents, our gifts to the whole world.  We leverage from the experience of our neighbors in the ASEAN (like) Vietnam and Thailand that have proven to be stalwarts in the region,” sabi ni Romualdez.

“And this is where we see what we call nationalism within the region. We try to prosper in this global community environment. And that's why we try to strive to celebrate our individuality but then we come together and we share,” saad pa nito.

Inanunsyo rin ni Speaker Romualdez ang paglulungsad ng kauna-unahang sovereign wealth fund ng bansa—ang Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF).

“This forum is an auspicious time for us because it is the very first time that the Philippines is presenting to the WEF our first Sovereign wealth fund called the Maharlika Investment Fund. We have just launched it this morning and our CEO now is meeting with a number of fund managers and we are trying now to reach out to the world,” sabi ni Romualdez. 

Gagamitin ang MIF upang agad na magawa ang mga proyekto at programang kinakailangan ng bansa na magpapalakas sa ekonomiya, lilikha ng mapapasukang trabaho at magpapahupa ng kahirapan sa bansa.

Ang pondo ay estratehikong ilalagay sa mga sektor na magtutulak ng multi-generational growth, partikular sa sektor ng enerhiya, food security, physical connectivity, teknolohiya, at napapanatiling paggamit ng pambansang yaman.

Sinabi ni Maharlika Investment Corporation CEO Rafael Consing, Jr. na ginawa ang MIF na maging pangmatagalan at epektibo.

Dagdag pa nito, ang pamamahala sa MIF ay nakaayon sa pinakamahusay na kasanayan sa mundo kung saan tinitiyak na ito ay transparent, may pananagitan at sumusunod sa pinakamataas na pamantayan. (END)
