Siniguro ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez na pananatilihing buhay ng Philippine delegation sa 2024 World Economic Forum (WEF) ang mensahe ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa pulong noong nakaraang taon: na bukas ang Pilipinas para sa negosyo at ito ang pinakama akmang lugar sa rehiyon para maglagak ng puhunan.

“We want to reiterate the message so it is not lost. We will repeat the message that the Philippines is open for business, we are strong, and we are united,” saad ni Romualdez sa welcome lunch para sa Philippine delegation sa Hotel Belvedere sa Davos.

Sina WEF head of Business Engagement for the Asia-Pacific Clara Chung, WTO Permanent Representative Ambassador Manuel A.J. Teehankee, Philippine Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation and Principality of Liechtenstein Bernard Faustino Dy, at iba pang affiliate ang sumaubong sa delegasyon ng Pilipinas.

Tinuran ni Speaker Romualdez ang matatag na economic fundamentals ng Pilipinas na nasa rehiyong may pinakamabilis na pag-unlad sa buong mundo.

“(We have) great fundamentals: the macro figures are fantastic. We are in the fastest growing region, we are the bright spot amid the global recession that we are suffering from. And within that bright spot, we look at the Philippines as the best country to invest in,” sabi ni Speaker Romualdez na siyang nanguna sa  Philippine delegation sa 2024 WEF.

Ayon sa 2024 Chief Economist Outlook ng WEF, inaasahan ng mayorya sa mga nangungunang ekonomista sa buong mundo na hihina ang pandaigdigang ekonomiya sa loob ng isang taon ngunit mananatiling matatag naman ang ekonomiya sa Timog at Silangang Asya.

Tinukoy pa ni Speaker Romualdez ang matatag na gobyerno ng Pilipinas na pinamumunuan ng isang malakas at popular na lider na si Pangulong Marcos Jr na patuloy na isinusulong ang inklusibo, matatag at pang matagalang pag-unlad sa nalalabing apat na taon sa termino.

Ibinida rin ni Speaker Romualdez ang mga hakbang ng Pilipinas para mas maging investor friendly kagaya na lang ng pagpapaluwag sa restrictive o mahigpit na mga probisyon ng 1987 Constitution.

Aniya, ang Senado na dati ay may alinlangan sa pag-amyenda sa Konstitusyon ay sinimulan na ang proseso ng pagsusulong sa pagbabago sa economic provision ng Saligang Batas.

Lunes nang ihain ni Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri ang Resolution of Both Houses No. 6 o “proposing amendments to certain economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution,” dahil na rin aniya sa panahon nang baguhin ang polisiyang pang ekonomiya ng bansa upang makasabay sa nagbabagong panahon.

“It would be a welcome development for our trade partners. So this is no longer a concept or a desire, just like the Maharlika (Investment Fund) was. It proves that ‘we walk the talk.’ When we talk about opening up our economy, then we actualize it through acts that are clearly tangible. Again, thanks to the leadership of the Marcos administration,” ani Speaker Romualdez

Maliban dito, inihayag din ni Speaker Romualdez ang pagkakaroon ng Pilipinas ng paraan para makakuha ng pamumuhunan sa pamamagitan ng  sarili nitong sovereign wealth fund na Maharlika Investment Fund. 

“And that is our dream that it would not only be one of the newest sovereign wealth fund but hopefully one of the most successful ones, if not the top performer,” sabi pa ni Speaker Romualdez

Pagsusumikapan aniya ng delegasyon na panatilihing nag-aalab ang apoy at sisiguruhin na ang mensahe ng Pangulong Marcos ay magpapatuloy at mararamdaman aniya ang presensya ng Pilipinas sa Davos bago muling bumalik ang Pangulo doon para sa susunod na pulong ng WEF sa susunod na taon.

“We are very excited for this because we believe that the Philippines has so much to offer and there is so much for the Philippines to gain from this engagement and we want to make the most of it,” wika ni Romualdez.
