MGA MAMBABATAS, PINAGHIHINAY-HINAY NG NKTI NA PALAWIGIN ANG MGA SESYON SA HEMODIALYSIS

Pinaghihinay-hinay ng National Kidney and Transplant Institute o NKTI ang mga mambabatas sa pagsusulong na palawigin ng hanggang 156 sessions ang hemodialysis package ng Philhealth.

Ayon kay Dr. Romina Danguilan, Head ng Hemodialysis Unit ng NKTI, naiintindihan nila na nais lamang pagaanin ng mga kongresista ang gastusin ng hemodialysis patients.

Ngunit kung sasagutin na ng buo ng gobyerno ang complete cycle dialysis, ay posibleng mas piliin ito kaysa kidney transplant.

Paliwanag ni Danguilan, hindi kasi sakop ng Philhealth package ang aftercare medicines matapos ang renal transplant.

Maliban dito mas maliit din ang sinasagot na halaga ng Philhealth sa peritoneal dialysis kumpara sa hemodialysis.

“Our fear is, and this is seen in other countries din po. If you give 156 sessions, nobody will get a kidney transplant. Why will you get a kidney transplant when the medicines after the transplant are not covered by Philhealth. I’d rather stay on hemodialysis because the government will pay for full treatment for the whole year. No one will go on peritoneal dialysis anymore because what we are giving for peritoneal dialysis is less than what we are giving for hemodialysis. So in the end po ang magiging epekto po nun is the patient will say, ‘I’ll do na lang hemo [dialysis] because the government naman will pay for everything for life.” saad ni Dr. Danguilan.

Bunsod nito, umapela ang opisyal sa mga mambabatas na imbes na ituon sa hemodialysis ay ipantay ang benepisyong makukuha ng kidney transplant at peritoneal dialysis sa Philhealth.

Bahagi nito ang pagsagot ng Philhealth sa mga gamot na kakailanganin pagkatapos ng renal transplant.

“That’s why in our Comprehensive RRT Bill, sana we give some more priority for kidney transplant by covering the medicines after the transplant, the immunosuppression and for PD [peritoneal dialysis] medyo pagandahin pa ho natin…because these two will give the highest quality of life and the better survival.” dagdag ni Danguilan.
