Speaker, Tingog kinilala Pinoy surfer na wagi sa int’l competition

KINILALA nina House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Gomez Romualdez at TINGOG Party List Congresswoman Yedda Maria K. Romualdez ang world-class surfer na si Rogelio “Jay-R” Esquivel, Jr. na nagwagi ng gintong medalya sa World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series Padrol Longboard Classic na ginanap sa Bali, Indonesia noong Hunyo 3-4.

“Jay-R Esquivel continues to make our country proud by winning international competitions one after another. His contributions to putting the Philippines in the world surfing map is not only honoring our country, but encouraging tourists to visit our surfing spots,” ani Speaker Romualdez.

Tumutulong ang mag-asawang Romualdez upang mabawasan ang gastos ni Esquivel sa kanyang pagsali sa mga kompetisyon gaya ng WSL.

Sa kanyang panalo sa WSL, si Esquivel ay makakalahok na sa WSL World Longboard Tour at naging kauna-unahang Pilipino na nakagawa nito.

Sinabi ni Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez na noong Pebrero ay personal nitong binati si Esquivel nang manalo ito sa WSL La Union International Pro Longboard Qualifying Series.

“And now here we are again, in awe of Jay-R’s achievements in world surfing competitions, making history not only for himself but for the rest of the Filipino nation. Your accomplishments truly deserve praise and recognition,” ani Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez.

Noong Mayo, si Esquivel ay bahagi rin ng team na nagtapos sa ikaapat na puwesto sa International Surfing Association (ISA) World Longboard Championship na ginanap sa El Salvador.

Ito ang debut ng Philippine Longboard Team sa naturang kompetisyon.

“Jay-R deserves all the support and recognition he can get, after making history after history in the world stage of surfing. We hope his example is followed by the youth of today and one day reach for their dreams,” sabi ng mag-asawang Romualdez.

Nangako rin ang dalawa na patuloy nasusuportahan ang surfing sa bansa at hinimok ang mga kabataan na sundan ang yapak ni Esquivel.
