Bagamat hindi iniendorso ng Kamara de Representantes, sinabi ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez na ang People’s Initiative upang maamyendahan ang Konstitusyon ay isang demokratikong proseso na nakasaad sa Konstitusyon.

“The People’s Initiative stands as a direct expression of the people’s will, providing a means for citizens to propose constitutional amendments,” ani Speaker Romualdez.

“The House does not endorse or sanction direct participation by its members in signature gathering, ensuring the process's integrity and independence remains intact,” saad pa nito.

Kinondena rin ni Romualdez ang mga alegasyon ng panunuhol at iba pang hindi kanais-nais na pamamaraan upang mahikayat umano ang publiko na pumirma sa People’s Initiative.

“Such actions, if true, would violate the initiative's spirit of honest and voluntary participation and erode our democratic foundations,” wika pa ng lider ng Kamara na mayroong mahigit 300 miyembro.

Muling iginiit ni Speaker Romualdez ang pangangailangan na masuri ang economic provision ng Konstitusyon upang dumami ang dayuhang mamumuhunan sa bansa upang mas mabilis na lumago ang ekonomiya at dumami ang mapapasukang trabaho.

“It necessitates a reexamination of the Constitution, particularly its economic provisions, to remove growth barriers,” sabi ni Speaker Romualdez.

Ang paghahain umano ni Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri ng Resolution of Both Houses No. 6 ay isang pagpapakita na nakikiisa ito sa pagnanais na magkaroon ng constitutional reform. 

“While the House respects and supports the People’s Initiative as an independent, citizen-driven process, our role is to facilitate and encourage democratic participation without direct involvement in signature collection. We are committed to ensuring that proposals are processed in accordance with legal and constitutional guidelines, maintaining the integrity of our Constitution in subsequent legislative actions,” giit ni Speaker Romualdez.

Sinabi ni Speaker Romualdez na ang Kamara ay nakikiisa sa pagkakaroon ng isang transparent at accountable framework para sa People’s Initiative para matiyak na ito ay ang tunay na saloobin ng mga Pilipino.

“We are here to support and respect the outcomes of this process, affirming the People’s Initiative as the purest form of democracy,” pagdidiin ni Speaker Romualdez. (END)
