PRESS RELEASE

JUNE 13

“Almost everybody are in praise of Senate President Chiz Escudero’s decision to suspend construction of the new Senate building pending comprehensive review. All except Senator Pimentel who, last we heard, was still the Minority Leader. What gives?” giit ni House Assistant Majority Leader at Zambales 1st District Rep. Jay Khonghun.

“Instead of hitting us, congressmen, the good Senate Minority Leader should welcome our move to applaud the decision of the new Senate leadership to uphold the principles of good governance.

“One thing is clear: the House of Representatives, with its over 300 members, does not have a P23-billion building project. Senator Pimentel's attempts to divert scrutiny from the Senate's controversial expenditure by highlighting the House's budget increase are unfounded and misleading,” wika ni Bongalon, na isang abogado.

“Public funds must be utilized transparently and judiciously, irrespective of the agency or branch of government,” sabi pa niya.

“There is no need to be onion-skinned about the criticisms aimed at the Senate’s spending. As public officials, we must all be open to scrutiny, especially when it concerns the use of taxpayers’ money,” saad ni 1-Rider party-list Rep. Rodge Gutierrez, na isa ring abogado.

“The public deserves to know why the cost of the NSB has escalated so dramatically, and your role as a Senator should include ensuring accountability and transparency, not merely defending controversial projects,” sabi niya.

"Senator Pimentel's defense of the Senate's budgetary allocation on its new building is unnecessary. What we need is transparency and accountability. The question remains: why has the NSB's budget ballooned to P23.3 billion, from its original allocation of P8.9 billion?” pahayag naman ni Assistant Majority Leader at La Union Rep. Paolo Ortega.

"Senator Pimentel's remarks are a distraction from the core issue. It's about the responsible use of public funds. We, the Senate and the House, should all work together to ensure fiscal responsibility," dagdag pa ni Ortega. (END)

Young Guns Blast Sen. Pimentel for Defense of Controversial Senate Building Project

The Young Guns of the House of Representatives strongly responded to recent statements made by Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III regarding the controversial new  Senate building project, saying the senator was diverting the issue.

“Almost everybody are in praise of Senate President Chiz Escudero’s decision to suspend construction of the new Senate building pending comprehensive review. All except Senator Pimentel who, last we heard, was still the Minority Leader. What gives?” House Assistant Majority Leader and Zambales 1st District Rep. Jay Khonghun said.

“Instead of hitting us, congressmen, the good Senate Minority Leader should welcome our move to applaud the decision of the new Senate leadership to uphold the principles of good governance.

House Assistant Majority Leader Rep. Jil Bongalon (Ako-Bicol Partylist) said it was unncessary for Senator Pimentel to divert the issue by comparing the budget of the Senate and the House of Representatives.

“One thing is clear: the House of Representatives, with its over 300 members, does not have a P23-billion building project. Senator Pimentel's attempts to divert scrutiny from the Senate's controversial expenditure by highlighting the House's budget increase are unfounded and misleading,” Bongalon, a lawyer, said.

“Public funds must be utilized transparently and judiciously, irrespective of the agency or branch of government,” he added.

The Young Guns noted that it is not their responsibility to defend the allocation and expenditure of the Senate's budget.

“There is no need to be onion-skinned about the criticisms aimed at the Senate’s spending. As public officials, we must all be open to scrutiny, especially when it concerns the use of taxpayers’ money,” said Rep. Rodge Gutierrez,

also a lawyer, (1-Rider Partylist).

“The public deserves to know why the cost of the NSB has escalated so dramatically, and your role as a Senator should include ensuring accountability and transparency, not merely defending controversial projects,” Gutierrez added.

"Senator Pimentel's defense of the Senate's budgetary allocation on its new building is unnecessary. What we need is transparency and accountability. The question remains: why has the NSB's budget ballooned to P23.3 billion, from its original allocation of P8.9 billion?” said Assistant Majority Leader and Rep. Paolo Ortega (La Union).

"Senator Pimentel's remarks are a distraction from the core issue. It's about the responsible use of public funds. We, the Senate and the House, should all work together to ensure fiscal responsibility," Ortega added. (END)

“This meeting symbolizes a renewed and reinvigorated partnership between the House of Representatives and the Senate under the leadership of Senate President Escudero,” ani Speaker Romualdez, na nagsabi rin na ang pagpupulong ay nagsisilbing paunang tagpo para sa gaganaping Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) meeting sa Hunyo 25.

“Together, we are committed to working hand-in-hand to pass key legislation that will significantly benefit the Filipino people,”dagdag pa ng lider ng Kamara na mayroong mahigit 300 kinatawan.

Nakasama ng dalawa sa pagpupulong sina Senate Majority Leader Francis “Tol” Tolentino, House Majority Leader Manuel Jose “Mannix” M. Dalipe, Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr., Deputy Speaker David “Jay-jay” Suarez, House Committee on Appropriations Chairman Zaldy Co, Presidential Legislative Liaison Office (PLLO) Sec. Mark Llandro "Dong" L. Mendoza, Undersecretary Adrian Carlos A. Bersamin of the Office of the Executive Secretary, House Secretary General Reginald “Reggie” Velasco, Deputy Secretary General Jennifer “Jef” Baquiran, Deputy Secretary General Robert David Amorin, Head Executive Assistant Director V Atty. Muel Romero, Senate Sec. Renato N. Bantug, Deputy Secretary Atty. Mavic Garcia, at Atty. Roland S. Tan, Chief of Staff ni Escudero.

“Our joint efforts with the Senate reflect our collective resolve to push forward the President’s priority measures,” sabi ni Romualdez matapos na mapag-usapan ang legislative calendar ng 3rd Regular Session ng 19th Congress.

“With Senate President Escudero’s dynamic leadership, I am confident that we can expedite the legislative process, ensuring that the benefits reach our people without delay,” dagdag pa ni Speaker Romualdez.

“Amending the Rice Tariffication Law is a crucial step towards ensuring food security and economic stability for our farmers,” giit ni Speaker Romualdez.

“We are committed to making quality rice affordable for all Filipinos while boosting the livelihoods of our local farmers,” saad pa nito.

“The focus remains on the twenty LEDAC priority measures targeted for approval by June 2024, with significant advancements already made, including ten measures approved by both Houses, one enacted into law, and several others in various stages of the legislative process,” sabi ng lider ng Kamara.

“This partnership between the House and Senate is not just about passing laws; it’s about making a tangible difference in the lives of Filipinos,” giit ni Speaker Romualdez.

“We are committed to an efficient and cohesive legislative process that will bring about meaningful reforms and improvements for our country,” dagdag pa nito. (END)
